Personal reflection on C&D thinking and mapping

Hello! How are you doing? Today I decided to write about Mind Mapping, and C&D (controvert and divergent) questions.

 Mind mapping is a diagram used to visually represent or outline information.
  Marketing people also call it "the Secret Marketing Weapon". They say : "The beauty of a mind map is that it lets you see the big picture so that patterns and trends are easier to spot. It lets you group and connect ideas."
 As a student, I love using it when I have to study for an exam, or to put lots of information together in one sheet. It's not only very helpful for organizating myself, I use many colors, different types of writing, and even draw something, so that it is more attractive for the eye. And you can even remember it easier, the information will last for longer time, than just learning it by heart. 

(This is only an example I did yesterday. Normally my MindMaps are the double size of it.)

The best thing about Mind Maps, in my opinion, is that you can make endless arrows, with a lot of information, and connect them all. You don't imegine how helpful it is to study. For me, it is the best way. 


But you don't have to use the traditional way, a sheet of paper and a pencil. You can create them in your computer and share them with how many people you want too. 
 I tried the Mindmup 2.0 app. At the beginning it seemed very cool, eventhough when I wanted to save my work something happened, and everytime I clicked in the "Save" button I got a message telling me that there was an error. So when our computing teacher told us about Mindomo, I got very excited to try this out. And the first thing I had to do was to easily log in, just by adding an email address. 
I have to admit that I love this new program. It is perfect to make very, very big MindMaps. You can even add easily videos and pictures. Which I think is amazing. 

So, now that you know the most important about Mind Maps I'd like to write to you about Convergent and Divergent questions. 

Convergent questions are those that typically have one correct answer, while divergent questions, are those one that introduce you to other type of answers.

Conevergent questions start with What? When? Who? Why? Where? etc. 
For example "When was the french revolution?". And the answer will be "1789-1799". It is simple and gets direct to the point. That's one Pro, but a Cons is that if you have to write an esay, you'll have not that much to say. 
  On the other hand, Divergent questions will give you your answer, but they will lead you to more questions. Which is perfect for learning more about that topic. We usually ask How was/could? What might? Suppose... etc. 
For example, "How was it possible for the french people to start the revolution?". If I ask this I'll get many answers, with different pionts of view. There are even a lot of books written only talking about this.

       Conclusion: To learn more you have to ask in a divergent way. This is also good to be able to write plenty of pages. 
  But if you need one specific anwser, short, and fast, than convergent questions are the best for you.

I do not agree with the video because it says that Divergents question makes the person  think about what they ask. Ok, I agree with that, but this may not help to the person, because this could generate more questions and maybe confuse them.
It is better for learn new things or for teach to use the Convergent thinking, because it goes fast to the main point a it is a simple and easy way to understand something. 
In which I agree with the video is, that when you have to write a text it is better to do a Divergent question because this way give you more information about what you want to write.

For example:
In the video "Convergent and Divergent Thinking" it explain how are this two types of thinking giving examples:

• The way in which you woud have a Convergent thinking will be if you ask for example: What do turtles eat? 

         Here you will have a simple answer.

• The way in which you woud have a Divergent thinking will be if you ask for example:  What might happen if a turtle was raised as                                   acarnivore rather than an omnivore?

       Here you will have more than an answer and more complex.

 

C&D thinking andind mapping

If you search the comic "The Flash" you will get a lot of information that you won't need to work with the topic. I believe convergent and divergent question are really useful techniques to study.
Convergent questions are those questions that gives you the answer you need, for example: who wrote the flash comics? Created by Gardner Fox and Harry Lampert. This kind of questions gives you the answer and not much more, this kind of questions are not enough to make an essay, they give you basic information.

Divergent questions gives you more information of your topic, but to make them you will have to think a little bit more. This kind of questions are perfect if you want yo write an essay about the topic, in my case "The Flash", my question would be what would happen if The Flash was grown as a villain instead of a hero? This question could lead me to more questions and more information for my essay, you just have to think outside the box.

 

Mind Mapping is a study technique, which has a main topic and subtopics developed outside the main topic. Here is one I and Alois made about what a computer is.

 I don't find this technique really useful, because it takes a lot of time, i find more useful to write an essay about the topic, but it doesn't look as good as the mind map. There is plenty of  apps to make one, but you can always make it on paper.

My opinion 

Hi everybody! As you already red in the title, this blog will be about me giving my opinion about Convergent&Divergent questions, and mind mapping.

If you look down you can see thst this picture shows a Rubic cube that can only be solved with convergent thoughts.

But what does convergent mean?

The convergent thoughts or questions are the ones that have only one answer and do not give space to use your creativity like the ones that sart with a ,,Who?", ,,What?"; ,,Where?"; ,,When?", etc.

But what does divergent mean?

To think divergent means to think out of the box, to be creative, going beyond the convergent quentions and start asking some like: ,,How could?"; ,,Suppose..."; ,,What might?"; ,,What if?", etc.

What do I think about them?

 I think both types of questions should be respected, because creativity is very important but sometimes wee need to get to the point. 

Mindapping 

It is a technique that is used to visualize the content of an idea and it is like a ned that is connected with lines. I like it very much and I use it often to study. It is helpful because it clears up your mind and you can use it to organize your ideas and to show and explain others what is on your mind.

Today I´m going to talk about my opinion of convergent and divergent questions and also about mindmapping with a program called Mindomo.

Let´s start with convergent and divergent questions. What are they? Explained in a simple way, convergent questions can have only one answer, while divergent questions can have infinit answers. 


  

Convergent questions have direct answers, for example What is 2 + 2?
They are generally used to focus on something. Here are some examples:

• What is your name?
• What are you doing?
• What did you eat yesterday?

Divergent questions have indirect answers, like How can I use this battery? You can use them to try and encourage a number of answers and lead to critical thinking, creativity and problem solving. Examples:

• What does the name Carl make you think?
• What else could you be doing?
• Did you want to eat something else?

My opinion:
Convergent questions are obviously much more simple, because you have only one simple answer. I think that divergent questions are better because you make your brain work. This questions will make it easier to you to understand the topic. And another point is that it can even lead you to more questions. 

Mindomo is a program where you can make a virtual mindmap. I like it because it's very easy and simple to use.

I use this technic of mindmapping very much for studying. You can summarize the information shorter, and also you can add colors or drawings so it looks more funnier or attractive. Honestly I prefer to elaborate a mindmap in paper. But I recently got to know this virtual mindmap, so I will give it a try.

Hi! We are Caro and Oli and we are part of the "18 lucky ducks". We are going to introduce ourselves.

A little bit about Caro:

Caro was born on March 31, 2002 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she lives with her family. In her free time, Caro practices volleyball in River, a stadium where football matches take place at. She also loves listening to music, spending time with her friends. Something special about Caro is that she hears all what you have to say, if you have a problem, or if you want to tell her something, she listens the whole entire story, even though the story could have been how you walked three blocks to get bread at the bakery. She also loves getting to know people, where are they are and how their culture is.

A little bit about Oli:

Olivia is fourteen years old and on the 24th of March she is turning fifteen. Oli has long, curly dark blonde hair and big green eyes. She is very charismatic, nice and funny. She loves to eat as much as Caro does and likes to go out to the shopping center with her friends. She is a good dancer and also loves to sing and act, which she does every weekend in Julio Bocca. There she has a lot of good friends. Oli also loves to take pictures and her grandfather, who is a photographer, has published books full of pictures. She would like to study gastronomy and be a famous chef. The thing that Oli has, that other people don´t, is that she is very optimistic and never lets mean people drag her down.
